The Crescent Bar & Grill has been in business since 1983. It was purchased by my parents, Ray & Hazel Ballard in 1970, and owned by them until 1980, when Butch & I purchased it.
It was a much smaller operation then, with only five employees, Butch & myself being two of them. At the time we were a full service bar only, offering no food. We started the food part of our business about 16 years ago. We have taken the business thru several changes, and in 1993 became a Sport's Bar. We are Boise's only Adult Sport's Bar, meaning we only serve those 21 years of age & older, even for dining. This sets us apart from the rest of the Sport's bars in the area.
The Crescent Bar & Grill has always been a well known establishment in the Boise area but became "Famous" for it's "No Lawyers" theme in 1984 due to a legal dispute with a neighbor of ours who was a lawyer. He sued us & tried to stop us from putting a swimming pool in the back \:lard of our personal residence. This started a legal battle that wouy last over 1 year, cost us over $10,000.00, and gave us unexpected publicity. We
were instant celebrities and our business was in the forefront.
At the end of the battle, we ended up not only with our swimming pool, but a new concept & logo for our business- "No Lawyers". Thanks to that laWyer our business was put on the map. In return, we honored him by lovingly offering menu items such as our famous "Lawyer Fries", as well as many other house favorites named for the legal system!
Our business outgrew its original location on Orchard St., and in June of 2003 we relocated to our current location on Franklin Road. Though we have added new & exciting menu items, and lots of amenities, we have stayed 10yal to our tried & true great favorites, proving that you can change locations and still staid true to who you, your business & your customers are.
Since, we have been trademarked not only in the bar & restaurant market, but also in the clothing market. We currently sell "No Lawyers" T-shirts, hats, etc. & will continue to pay tribute to the profession in a variety of ways.
We continue to receive Lawyer Jokes and Lawyer memorabilia from all over the nation, and continue to welcome many new "regulars" due to our "No Lawyers" Theme and our high standards of beverage, food & guest service.
